For our first deeper topic I chose grace! Tell me what your first thoughts are on this deep topic. Is grace the same thing as mercy? Can they be interchanged at times? How do we receive grace in our lives? Is it as easy as reaching out and accepting it or do we have to do something for it? What does grace do for us besides keep us out of trouble? Can we offer the grace of God to others? Is that different than the grace we give from ourselves?
Mercy is not getting what you do deserve ("For the wages of sin is death..."). Grace is receiving what you don't deserve ("...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.") You have to have both. I think of it sort of as a bank account. I owed a huge debt I couldn't pay. Mercy brought my balance back to 0. Grace put something in my account. And it was all a free gift from God. My part was simply to ask and accept. But all that grace just sitting in my account does no good- I need to share it with others. The grace I extend to others is the same grace God gave to me. The amazing thing is- it never runs out!
ReplyDeleteVery well stated Mrs Brenda! I love your analogy of the bank account and how we need to share it with others. Of course, I feel like grace deserves more than we could possibly discuss in one blog post. But, for me, I don't recognize it enough in my life. For more on this topic of grace I suggest "In the Grip of Grace" by Max Lucado!
