Teaching Warfare
Judges 3:1,2 (NLT) "The Lord left certain nations in the land to test those Israelites who had not participated in the wars of Canaan. He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle."
Umm...excuse me! I thought that once we defeated the enemy the Lord got rid of them completely. I thought that once we fought some trial or tribulation and gained victory we would never see it again. I thought once we entered the promised land the fighting was over. Apparently not. I read this verse in my devotions today and I think it explains a lot of what I've been going through lately. I believe the Lord has been reteaching me some warring strategies that I have long forgotten. Why? For me? Well according to the text it is for those who are around me who haven't had to fight yet. What good is it for me to counsel someone with information I obtained when I was a teenager. Perhaps I am fighting (and winning with the Lord's help) some of those same battles today so that I can have fresh perspective to speak to a new generation. Whether change is good or bad, it is inevitable. Life will not remain the same. Thank you Lord for new perspective on a new era of my life.
