Vision is one of the most vital things in life. I wonder how many times we take it for granted.
How many things have you missed driving down the road? I know for me I can get totally immersed in a conversation or a thought that I will miss out on things that pass by me. I have even missed a street I was supposed to turn on because I wasn't paying attention.
Spiritually, I wonder how many times God has tried to flag me down when I was headed in a certain direction and I didn't even notice. Should God have used a bigger sign or should I have been paying closer attention?
Recently, in this world of vision God has been teaching me to look ahead. I love gratification. I love to look at something and see it completed. But oftentimes, I miss what the steps that are necessary to get the job done the way it needs to be done. The gratification overwhelms my desire to notice the details of the job.
And most recently, I have had the tendency to notice the things that aren't bringing gratification. What a trap from the devil! The scripture says, "The things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal!" 2 Corinthians 4:18. We can get so caught up in what is going on now, or better said what is not going our way now, that we will miss the eternity of each moment.
So look ahead. Keep your eyes fixed on the prize. The journey becomes much more understandable when you realize that the road is meant to lead you to heaven and only meant to take you through where you are now. You will not be where you are forever. Are you making the most of those opportunities? If you point people to eternity you will see them again even if you don't see them tomorrow.
Look ahead and see Christ - the hope of glory!
